Pista’y Dayat presents “Distinctly P’sinan Summer Revelry”

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – The fusion of traditional festival activities and new events of the Pistay Dayat celebration stimulates the interest of spectators to experience the “Distinctly Pangasinan Summer Revelry.”

Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer Malu Elduayan said revelers were given a foretaste of the month-long Pistay Dayat celebration during the opening day of the “Sea Festival” on April 20 which featured the opening of the 11th Tourism and Trade Expo; Plants, Garden and Landscape Competition and Bonsai Show; “Kansyonan tan Sayawan” by Capitol and Basista Orchestras, as well as the Limgas na Pangasinan Talent Night.

 “The diverse set of events this time introduces a different taste of entertainment and adventure to Pistay Dayat revelers, and beachgoers,” said Elduayan.

Capping the peak of the Pistay Dayat celebration on May 1 is the “Dulang” Boodle Fight, a festive banquet which will gather people from all walks of life at the baywalk area at the Capitol beachfront right after the Misa na Pisasalamat and Pistay Dayat Commemorative Program.

Dulang, a Pangasinan term for “hapag-kainan” or dining table, is a symbol of abundant harvest and unity among Pangasinenses.

Simultaneously held in the eve of May 1 are: 3rd Night Job Market at the PESO compound, and the GMA Kapuso Night with Alden Richards, Bea Binene, Benjamin Alves and Sunshine Cruz at the Capitol Plaza.

Elduayan said crowd-drawing events of Pistay Dayat revelry to be held at the Capitol beachfront include: Liket tan Gayaga ed Aplaya, featuring Insiong and local artists (April 27, 8PM at the Capitol beachfront); Tanol Pangasinan / Rock Music Festival (April 28, 8PM). Two other big events to be held at the Capitol Plaza are: Paliket na Kapitolyo with Jose and Wally (April 29, 8PM), and Limgas na Pangasinan pageant and coronation night (April 30, 8PM).

The sand sculpting competition, a traditional Pistay Dayat featured event which showcases the artistry of locals, is on April 30, 5AM, at the Capitol beachfront. Other events which showcase the creativity of local talents are: Panag Arte La Lamet exhibit (April 23 to May 13, Provincial Training and Development Center); and the Boat Painting Contest (April 27, 8AM, at the back of the Veterans’ Memorial Park) which will be participated in by groups sent by the 12 coastal towns and two coastal cities of the province.

Sports enthusiasts will witness intense action with the following sporting events to be played at the Capitol beachfront as part of the celebration. These include: Philippine Beach Games (April 28, 8AM – 29, 9AM); Ladies Beach Volleyball (April 30 – May 1, 9AM); and 9th Paboksing ed Gulpo (April 30, 3PM).

Awarding Ceremony for the 2nd Governor’s Cup Inter-Town/City Basketball Tournament is set on April 29, 2PM, at the NRSCC gym.

Other Pistay Dayat sponsored events include: Army Mechanized Static Display and Sky Diving (April 28, 9AM, at the Capitol beachfront) Artistahing Pulis Basketball (April 28, 3PM, at the NRSCC gym); Kite Flying Competition (April 29, 8AM, Capitol beachfront); Dance Fitness and Health Beach Party (April 29, 4PM, Capitol beachfront); Paragliding with paragliders from other countries (April 30 – May 1); Pangasinan Skateboarding Competition (April 30, 4PM, Capitol beachfront); SMB Night (May 1, 8PM at Expo compound); 2nd Lingayen Gulf Golf Tournament (May 6, 6AM, Bonuan Beach Club in Dagupan City); and culminating the Sea Festival is the Tigasin Triathlon with well-known triathletes in the country and abroad to participate in this multi-sports event (May 12-13, Capitol beachfront).
